Return to Nature
Libby Mills explores the fleeting beauty of her local natural environment and her connection to nature through a series of mixed media artworks.
Libby is particularly drawn to expressing those qualities of a place that evoke a sense of wonder within precious moments of time. Her visual language is a personal reflection of these moments, which she often photographs or draws in her immediate environment as a starting point. She then transforms this imagery utilising a layered array of media in a form that is both personal and poetic.
Her combination of drawing and painting amidst organic textural qualities allow Libby to evoke an immersive, observed experience, both in terms of her creative practice and the outcome. The works also contain an ethereal sense of spatial awareness, inspired by Sydney Long’s Art Nouveau paintings and the rich history of Australian Landscape.
Libby’s direct engagement with nature emphasises the importance of re-establishing our connection to the natural world.
